Job Title:   Owner' s/Underground/Overhead Engineer

Location:  Allentown, PA

Duration:    Contract to Hire Possible: 1 year+, outside chance of contract to hire for the right candidate

MVR/Motor Vehicle Record check will be required (Y/N): Yes - traveling to other sites/field locations 2-3 times per week

Skills / Experience:

Required:
  •   BS degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, or civil preferred).
  •   Must be able to travel to job sites within service territory as needed.
  •   Must have a valid driver’ s license.
  •   Must be able to work five 8-hour days Monday through Friday at  Main        office.
  •   Must have ability to work within the United States without  sponsorship.
  •   Minimum of 3 years’ experience designing electric utility distribution (15 kV and below) overhead and underground lines.
  •   Must have working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
  •   Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
  •   Must possess strong interpersonal, communications and technical skills.
  •   Demonstrated proficiency with standard desktop PC applications.
  •   Knowledge and ability to apply Company safety and industrial hygiene policies.  Awareness of safety rules and environmental hazards, and ability to take appropriate action to ensure safety to personnel, the public, and environment.
  •   Ability to handle multiple projects, to prioritize and organize work effectively, and adjust to changing priorities and workload in a timely, thorough manner.
  •   Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  •   Ability to achieve confined space certification and ascend/descend on ladders to enter manholes and vaults.

 

Preferred:
  •   Minimum of 2 years’ experience designing underground electric utility secondary grid networks.

Owner’ s Engineer (OE)

·      We expect the contractor to work independently to organize and complete assignments by the set forth and agreed upon schedule.

·      Prepare & submit scope of work for design contracts.

·      Submit contract requests in  Asset Suite application.

·      Review & process change orders in  Asset Suite application.

·      Verify contractor invoices in  Asset Suite application.

·      As Owner’ s Engineer (OE), the contractor, in general, will oversee, review and comment on the work performed by  selected Line Design Contractor(s) or Internal Designers to assure:
  • Design meets  work scope and criteria.
  • Project design deadlines are defined and met.
  • Design appropriately utilizes  established specifications and quality.

 

Underground Line Design

·      Review project and develop detailed scope.

·      Gather all pertinent drawings and data.

·      Hold & document pre-design & post-design field walkdowns.

·      Enter vaults and manholes to obtain field data/pictures with electrician assistance.

·      Identify and order long lead material.

·      Specify appropriate construction units for the design.

·      Perform electrical and cable pulling calculations.

·      Coordinate project with other  stakeholders and support groups.

·      Coordinate projects requiring civil work with  Civil Design group.

·      Prepare construction drawings utilizing AutoCAD and Adobe Pro.

·      Prepare and submit PennDOT and municipal permit sketches and applications.

·      Assemble project design release documents using Adobe Pro.

·      Perform QA/QC design peer reviews.

·      Provide construction support by participating in pre-bid meetings, answering field questions, and responding to any issues during construction.

·      Interpret red-line documents and notate as-built changes on record drawings for drafting updates.

 

Overhead Line Design

·      Review project and develop detailed scope.

·      Gather all pertinent drawings and data.

·      Obtain field data and pictures.

·      Request survey from Survey Department.

·      Hold & document pre-design & post-design field walkdowns.

·      Identify and order long lead material.

·      Utilize AutoCAD to layout line and obtain measurements.

·      Request field staking or perform staking for small projects.

·      Notate design notes, additions, and replacements for R/W, construction and one-line drawing preparation.

·      Coordinate project with other stakeholders and support groups.

·      Specify appropriate construction units for the design for construction order preparation.

·      Perform electrical, clearance, and strength (PoleForeman) calculations.

·      Coordinate projects with communication cable attachments and complete joint pole use requests.

·      Prepare and submit PennDOT and municipal permit sketches and applications.

·      Assemble project design release documents using Adobe Pro.

·      Perform QA/QC design peer reviews.

·      Provide construction support by participating in pre-bid meetings, answering field questions, and responding to any issues during construction.

·      Interpret red-line documents and notate as-built changes on record drawings for drafting updates.
